Windows Update keeps offering to install Games for Windows V3.0
. How do I get it to stop?
GTA IV and Games for Windows Live. So I say yes to the update, and when the overlay closes the game decides it would rather continue playing and start the opening cutscene rather than quit to. Games for Windows Live is, as the name implies, an online gaming community for Microsoft users to play against opponents from all over the world. It is available in 41 countries – the same countries in which Xbox Live is available as the communities are somewhat related, both being operated by Microsoft.

I solved this issue by removing the Games for Windows Live applications (I removed both 'Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE' and 'Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable') from my computer, then downloading the installation program from the website and re-installing GFWL.
You can download the program here (scroll down to the big yellow button).
Do you perhaps have a previous version of that package installed? It might not be wanting to perform a fresh install, but instead be trying to apply a mandatory update patch.
Edit: After looking at the German, I see that it's not 'Wichtig'; 'Important', but rather 'empfehlen'; 'Recommended'. I see the 'Status' column says 'erfolgreich'; 'Successful'.
Edit2 I also note the column further to the right labeled 'Installationsdatum'; 'Installation date'. My question stands. :-)
If you have an old version and the update is just failing it might be worth downloading the latest version and doing a manual install.

Though the steps are somewhat advanced, any help from the community would be appreciated. To provide us with details of the instlal error, you would need to do the following:

- Make an attempt to install the update again.
- Once you get the error 80070643, you will need to go look for the log file. The log file is located in the system temporary folder and the file name is random, but begins with the letters 'Msi' and end with a .log extension.
